A FINE RUSSIAN ICON: The Crucifixion, circa 1580, probably Yaroslav. On the left side the three Mary’s look upon the crucified Christ. The long narrow panel with wider margins on the top and bottom as compared to the sides is consistent with icons from this period. Additionally, the panel size would suggest that the offered icon was possibly from a set of prazdniki (feast day) icons once displayed in an iconostasis. 19 inches by 13.5 inches (48 cm by 34 cm).
