A BEAUTIFUL RUSSIAN ICON: The Vladimir Mother of God, 17th century. A finely painted specimen with exceptional detail throughout including intricate chrysography on the garments of the infant Christ. The prototype of this icon sis said to have been brought from Constantinople in the year 1155. Later it was taken from Kiev and placed in the city of Vladimir, from which the name is derived. The original remains today and is located in the Trtyakov Museum, Moscow. 12.25"x10.5".
