A VERY FINE AND IMPORTANT SILVER-GILT, ENAMELED AND ENGRAVED CIBORIUM, Armand Calliat, Lyons, France, circa 1890. Rising up from a six-lobed heavily engraved base with beaded rim and set with six cloisonné enamel shields displaying various images including the Lamb of God, the central reeded-style stem holding a compressed circular node with beading and enamel and supporting a large bowl held in an enameled and pierced basket and engraved in Latin "This is the bread of God which came down from heaven and gives life to the world". The dome lid heavily chased and with applied cloisonné enamel and enameled cross finial. Height 12". Comes in a velvet and silk-lined custom-fitted and lockable leather covered case. Total weight 42 ounces. Spectacular!
