41            RUSSIAN ICON: The Smolensk Mother of God, first part of the 19th century. The Mother of God gestures towards the infant Christ who delivers a blessing. The entire image overlaid with a heavy silver-gilt, repoussé and chased riza with large brilliant haloes and enamel title plaques. Riza hallmarked Moscow, dated 1822 and with Cyrillic makers mark "G.Ya." A fine icon with beautifully crafted riza. 12.25"x10.25". Estimate            $2,500-$3,500

42            RUSSIAN ICON: Saint Nicholas, end of the 19th century. Traditionally depicted as bishop and executed in a realistic manner, here Nicholas holds the Gospels and delivers a blessing. Above his shoulders are Christ delivering Gospels and Mary presenting him with his bishops stole. The entire icon overlaid with an outstanding, multiple piece, silver gilt, repoussé and engraved riza with cloisonné enamel haloes and plaques. Hallmarked Moscow, circa 1890s and with Cyrillic makers mark "I.V.," probably for Ivan Vasilev, active 1896-1908. Stunningly beautiful. 12.25"x10.5".  Estimate            $5,000-$7,500

43            RUSSIAN ICON: The Mother of God with Saints, circa 1900. An unusual and interesting icon depicting a full-length image of the Mother of God at center holding a scepter in her upraised right hand and in her left hand holding  what appears to be a small loaf of bread. At top center is an image of The Lord Almighty. She is surrounded by a gathering of Saints. On the left, St. Boniface, St. Damian, St. Cosmas, St. Dimitriy, St. Aviv, St. Samon, St. Sadoc, St. Martinian, St. Guriy, St. Antipy, St. Nicholas, and the Guardian Angel. To the right of Mary are; St. Mary Magdalen, St. Koprian, St. Justina, St. Theodor, St. Florus, St. Laurus, St. Paisius, St. Neophant, St. Maroe, St. Nikita of Novgorod, St. John the Forerunner and the Prophet Elijha. In the upper left corner the sun, at right the moon. The entire image overlaid with a heavy silver-gilt repoussé and chased riza of extraordinarily high relief and intricate design. Hallmarked Moscow, circa 1900 and with Cyrillic makers mark "Vas. Utkin." An interesting icon finely painted in the Palekh style. 12.25"x10.5". RARE. Estimate          $3,000-$4,000

44            RUSSIAN ICON: St. Nicholas, circa 1800. A finely painted bust portrait image of Nicholas executed in the traditional old style, and in excellent untouched original condition. The entire image overlaid with a beautifully crafted silver-gilt repoussé and chased riza, hallmarked Moscow, dated 1838 and with undistinguishable makers mark, possibly Karl Brendenberg. A fine icon in every respect. 12"x10.25".  Estimate            $1,500-$2,500

45            RUSSIAN ICON: The Deisis, circa 1890. This composition is sometimes referred to as the "Extended" Deisis because of the addition of other persons. Christ is at center enthroned, on His immediate left is Mary who along with John the Forerunner at right intercede with Christ on behalf of humanity. Behind Christ are the Archangels Michael and Gabriel together with Saints Peter, Paul, John the Theologian and Nicholas. At the feet of Christ are the warrior Saint George, Saint Paraskeva, Saints Zosima and Savatiy. The title inscribed along the upper margin reads "The Lord Almighty." The borders intricately incised. 12.25"x10.5". Excellent condition! Estimate            $1,000-$1,500

46            RUSSIAN ICON: The Kazan Mother of God, circa 1908. Realistically rendered. The entire image overlaid with a finely engraved silver-gilt riza with cloisonné enamel haloes and champleve enamel title plaque. Hallmarked Moscow with Cyrillic makers mark, "S.G.," probably Sergiy Gupkin. Beautiful! 10.5"x8.75". Estimate            $1,750-$2,500

47            RUSSIAN ICON: Saint Katherine, 19th century. At center a full-length image of Katherine, to the left her vision of Mary and the infant Christ, to the right her beheading. At top center Christ delivers a blessing. The entire image overlaid with a spectacular riza of seed pearls, paste stones and glass beads. Rizas such as this were the specialty of many convents. They were also created by lay people as well. A stunning riza covered with a profusion of pearls and beads. 12"x10.25". Fully painted beneath riza. Estimate          $1,200-$1,800

48            RUSSIAN ICON: The Smolensk Mother of God, 19th century. Executed in the traditional old style, the entire image overlaid with a silver-gilt repoussé and chased riza, hallmarked Moscow, dated 1863 and with Cyrillic makers mark "A.F." 12.25"x10.5". 49            RUSSIAN ICON: The Feodorovskaya Mother of God, 19th century. Finely painted in the traditional old style. The borders with Saint Vera and Tatiana. Exceptional detail and gold highlighting. The entire image overlaid with a beautiful riza embellished with a profusion of river pearls, glass beads and paste stones. A fine icon of this tenderness variant which came to be the patron of the House of Romanov. A very fine icon. 11.75"x10". Estimate            $1,200-$1,800
