A RARE ROCK ISLAND SYSTEM REVERSE PAINTED & MOTHER OF PEARL DEPOT SIGN circa 1905, depicting in detailed polychromed mother of pearl, a Rock Island 4-4-2 locomotive #1019 & five Pullman cars against a finely detailed mountain scene with a foreground of cattle & a cowboy, gilt border entitled “Rock Island System”, original oak frame entitled “Rocky Mountain Limited to Colorado”. 90”x26.5” overall. For an identical example of the Lightner Museum, St. Augustine Florida, fifty were commissioned by Rock System at the turn-of-the-century.
