many as 7,500 paintings in her 50 year painting career. Largely
self-taught, Barchus is believed to have only taken painting lessons
for a short while in her early twenties. The ambitious painter then
promoted her mountain landscape paintings to tourists by placing them
in prominent business locations. The majority of paintings sold by
Barchus were purchased by tourists to the Northwest who wanted a
souvenir to take home with them. Demand quickly grew for Barchus’s
landscapes, leading her to produce as many as 10 or more standard-size
paintings at a time in assembly-line fashion. Today her works garner
wide interests and are eagerly pursued by collectors coast to coast. |
