A FINE AND IMPORTANT LARGE GILT BRONZE CASKET FORM RELIQUARY French 19th century. Resting on a base of four seated eagles supporting each corner and with swags between them. At center a crowned wreath displaying a city crest. The slanted sides and lid set with beveled glass and mounted at top with the Papal tiara atop keys resting on a pillow. The interior containing 3 glass cylindrical reliquaries each secured with wax seals and strings and containing various relics including those of St. Augustin, St. Ambrose, St. Athanasius, St. Bernard, abbt., St. Urban, St. John Vianny - "Cure d'Ars", and many others. The bowl supported by buttress form elements and engraved in Latin with text taken from the "Bread of Life" discourse, from the Gospel of St. John. The spire-shaped lid set with cross finial.
