A RUSSIAN ICON: The Smolensk Mother of God, 19th c. The entire icon covered with an elaborate riza covered with a profusion of hand-sewn beads and colorful paste stones. Beautiful! 10"x12".

A RUSSIAN ICON: The Lord Almighty, circa 1890s. Christ delivers a blessing and holds the Gospels open to John 13:34. Overlaid with a silver-gilt riza with applied champleve enamel title plaques, and with Cyrillic makers mark "S.G.", probably Sergiy Gupkin. Icon contained in a lovely custom fitted kiot. Icon 8.75"x10.24", Overall 13"x15".

A RUSSIAN ICON: The Kazan Mother of God, 19th c. Traditionally executed in the Old Style. Overlaid with an ornate repoussE9 and chased silver riza with applied gilded silver halo. Riza hallmarked St. Petersburg, dated 1851 and with Cyrillic makers mark "B.M." 12.5"x10.5".

A RUSSIAN ICON: St. Tikhon Bishop of Zadonsk, 19th/20th c. Machine engraved silver riza with enamel appointments, hallmarked Moscow dated 1881 and with Cyrillic makers mark "I.Kh." Painted icon apparently a later 20th c. replacement. 8.25"x10.5".

A SET OF RUSSIAN ICONS: The Resurrection with Feasts, 19th c. An interesting set of 13 hand painted Rostov enamel icons depicting the Resurrection at center surrounded by the 12 great Church feasts. Complete sets such as the offered lot are less frequently encountered having often been broken up or damaged. Rare. 10.25"x13".

The Gospel text and title plaque in champleve. The gilded and machine engraved metal riza also embellished with later cloisonnE9 corner plaques and halo. Stunning! 10.5"x12.5".

A RUSSIAN ICON: The Resurrection with Feasts, 18th c. The central image depicting the Resurrection, with an interesting addition of St. Nicholas in the upper right corner. The borders depicting the 12 major feast days. Overlaid with a repoussE9 silver riza dated 1818, Moscow. The central gilded riza being a later addition dated 1843 and also hallmarked Moscow. This icon is a good example of illustrating how icons were often continually decorated. The icon itself is from the late 18th c. The first riza is dated in 1818, then later in 1843 the gilded central section was added probably as an ex-voto offering. A fine older icon. 12"x10.5".
