A RUSSIAN ICON: The Soothe My Sorrows Mother of God, 19th c. The infant Christ reclines on the Virgin’s lap and holds a scroll which begins "Render true Judgments, show kindness and mercy to his brother..." (Zechariah 7:9-10). Overlaid with a lovely gilded metal riza. 13"x9.5". |

Overlaid with a finely engraved silver-gilt riza hallmarked Moscow and dated 1880. Contained in a custom-fitted kiot. This subject with the accompanying Gospel text was often used as a wedding icon for the groom. Excellent condition. Overall 9"x8". |

A RUSSIAN ICON: The Old Testament Trinity, 19th c. A finely painted icon depicting the three angels who appeared to the Patriarch Abraham as recorded in Chapter 18 of the book of Genesis. Abraham’s wife, Sarah, looks on from behind the door of their "tent". Ornately decorated borders. The inscription along the base reads The Holy Trinity. A fine icon in original untouched condition. 14"x12". |

A RUSSIAN ICON: The Mother of God Joy To All Who Suffer, c.1900. A standard depiction, however the manner in which the Virgin holds her hand in a blessing gesture would suggest this icon was commissioned for an Old Believer. Another interesting addition are the top row of added Saints Julita and Kirik, the Guardian Angel, St. Nikita and St. Marina. 13.5"x12". |

A RUSSIAN ICON: The Birth of the Mother of God, 19th c. Here Anna, the mother of Mary, reclines on a bed after giving birth. Servants prepare to bathe the newborn child. Mary’s father Joakhim, looks on from the right. The condensed and abbreviated inscription along the top margin reads Rozhdestvo (Birth) Presvyatoe (of the Most Holy) Bogoroditsui (Birth-Giver of God). One of the 12 great festivals, it is celebrated on September 8th. 12.25"x10.5". |
