AN EXTENSIVE US WWII P.O.W. GROUPING of Iowa veteran Pvt. Wayne H. Doe. Over 147 unique items relating to Doe's service and imprisonment including but not limited to the following: 5 original Western Union Telegrams including one to Does wife dated January 3, 1945 stating Doe was a prisoner of war. Lot further contains over 50 handwritten letters from Doe to his wife and children as well as correspondence to him from his family. Additionally: Newspapers and articles relating to Doe's service, plus maps, booklets, cards, and various photos. Plus, 2 German Prison of War Camp postcards sent from Stalag VIIA by Doe to his family in Iowa, both of which did not arrive until 1946! Also a letter from the Adjutant General's Office and Chaplain of HQ/2nd Btn/317Inf to his family regarding his POW status. Plus Combat Infantry Badge award acknowledgement, Doe's "Separation & Qualification Form", overseas cap, 70th Div patch, ribbon bars, Ruptured Duck and lapel insignia, pair of wooden prisoner clogs, and much much more. Pvt. Doe was assigned first to the 70th Div and then later to the 80th Infantry Division and was engaged in combat with German Forces in occupied France from September 17 to October 03, 1944 when he was taken prisoner at the age of 40. A unique and fascinating group which presents a rare window into a soldiers life, his family life left behind--and their efforts, if only in writing, to remain near each other.
