A Connecticut native, Schmid studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago from 1952-55, with William Mosby. He exhibited nationally and has won many awards during his career, including the Jane Peterson Prize, the Allied Artists American, the American Watercolor Society Gold Medal of Honor and many others.
