RUSSIAN ICON: The Mother of
God,
18th/19th century. A tenderly rendered image of Mary the Mother of
Christ. Here She is depicted turned towards Her Son in an attitude of
prayer. She holds a scroll which begins "Ruler Most Gracious, Lord
Jesus Christ...". The entire icon overlaid with an ornately chased
and repousséd silvered metal riza with attached halo.

RUSSIAN ICON: The Lord
Almighty,
circa 1800. Here Christ delivers a blessing and holds an open book of
Gospels to: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest." The title inscribed at shoulder height.
The entire background and border in 22kt gold leaf. The left border with
the Guardian Angel, the right border with Saint Gregory the Theologian.
A beautiful icon in very fine original condition. 13.5"x11". |

RUSSIAN ICON: The Lord Sabaoth,
19th century. Here God the Father is depicted with both hands raised and
delivering a blessing. It should be noted that the finger positions are
configured in the manner favored by the Old Believers who separated from
the State Church in the mid 17th century. Upon His chest is a dove
symbolizing the Holy Spirit. A triangle within the halo represents the
Trinity. The abbreviated inscription along the upper margin clearly
identifies the subject as GOSPOD SAVAOF. The gold leaf background
incised with rays emitting from the halo. 14"x12". |

RUSSIAN ICON: Feodorovskaya
Mother of God, 19th century. An ornate and
interesting executed icon depicting the Virgin and Child in a tender
embrace. In the early 17th century an icon of this subject was carried
by the deputation which implored young Mikhail Romanov to become Tsar of
Russia. It thus became the patron of the House of Romanov. Exceptional
gilt heightening and unique ornate ogee-arched border.

19th century. Nicholas delivers a blessing and holds a book of Gospels
open to a variant of Luke 6:17. The left border with the Guardian Angel,
the right border with Saint Helen. Very good condition.

AN UNUSUAL SOUTHWEST RUSSIAN
ICON: The New Testament Trinity with the Fall of Mankind. At
top the resurrected Christ holding his cross, on the right God the
Father and between them a dove, sign of the Holy Spirit. Beneath them
within a circular cartouche, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden with a
serpent wrapped around a tree and holding a piece of fruit. A rare and
interesting subject. 11.5"x9". |

RUSSIAN ICON: Saint Stephen of
Perm,
19th century. Here Stephen is depicted in monastic robes. He holds a
scroll, in the background the city of Perm. Christ delivers a blessing
from upper left. The inscription on the upper border identifies him as
"The Holy Venerable Stephen of Perm." Very good condition.

A FINE VENETO CRETAN ICON: The
Life Giving Font Theotokos, circa 1700. Here Mary is seated
with her child in a chalice-form fountain set in the middle of a
constructed pool. Water from the "chalice" pours into the
fountains, and those suffering various ills cluster about to take the
life-giving waters. Indistinguishably signed lower left.

Panteleimon,
19th century. This 3rd century martyr is depicted with a medicine box
and spoon. His name is Greek for "All-Merciful". He is the
Patron of Healers. The background and borders with ornate designs. The

brilliant 22kt gold leaf field with ornately incised decoration.

Here the Virgin and Child are seated at center with Saints Antoniy and
