LOUIS MICHEL EILSHEMIUS (American 1864-1941) "Coastal Scene with a Figure in a Boat" watercolor and gouache on artist board, signed "Eilshemius" and dated "1918" lower right. 20.5"x29.5".

Eilshemius was a prolific artist and an eccentric self-promoter. He stopped painting one year after his first solo exhibition in New York City. He initially studied in Geneva and Dresden, and throughout his career traveling widely, often painting scenes (probably similar to the offered lot) from his travels.

REGIONALIST SCHOOL probably Stone City Art Colony (c.1932)  "Railyard Along a River" oil on board, verso with portrait of a woman. Work is very similar in subject to that of Stone City instructor Arnold Pyle. 17.75"x24.75".

Stone City was an artist’s colony created by Grant Wood in the summers of 1932 and 1933.  The intent of the colony was for artists to create works that would display the Midwest’s distinctive character.

LOUISA SMITH (1873-1928) "Eastern Mountain Landscape" oil on canvas, signed lower right “Louisa Smith Harrisburg, PA”. 18"x30.25".

Louisa Jordan Smith was a Virginia artist who spent her life teaching about and creating art. She started a permanent art collection for Randolph-Macon Women’s College and bequeathed her entire estate and funds for future acquisitions. Smith’s main renown is for portraiture and landscapes (such as the offered lot).

AMERICAN SCHOOL (19th century) "Wooded Landscape" oil on canvas, unsigned. Contained in an ornate frame. 16"x24".

EDWARD M. HAMER (American 1877-1960) "Harvest Time" oil on canvas laid down, signed lower right. 16"x20".

W. REGINALD WATKINS (American b.1890) "Winter Landscape" oil on canvas, signed and dated “1939” lower right. 24"x30".

William Reginald Watkins was born in Machester, England and later studied at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore Maryland. There he studied under artists such as Hans Schuler, C.W. Turner and Maxwell Miller. He was a member of the Baltimore Watercolor Club, the London Royal Society of Art, Baltimore Art Director Club, National Art Director and the Maryland Institute Alumni Board.  His work was exhibited both nationally and internationally.
