in Dvinsk Latvia, Gershov studied at the Art School in Minsk & the
Academy in St. Petersburg. His works often focus on the Jewish life of
Russia. Many of Gershov's paintings were brought out of Russia by the
sculptor Fredda Brilliant & husband Professor Emeritus, Herbert
Marshall, former director of the Center for Soviet & East European
Studies, Southern Illinois University, U.S.A. From the 1930s through
1960s Fredda developed a close friendship with Gershov & collected
many of his works along with works by other Russian artists. |
