Maestas spent his childhood in Seligman, Arizona “thriving on the awe and simplicity of his young Indian friends” before establishing himself as a Southwest commercial artist.  His unique Oil Rub Out style is a subtractive technique which dates back to the time of Michelangelo.

FARRELL COCKRUM (c.1998) "Portrait of a Native American” oil on canvas, signed lower left and dated "'98". 20"x16".

Farrell Cockrum is a Native American Indian of the Blackfeet Nation from Montana. Many of his works include contemporary depictions of his people. Among the Blackfeet, giving is considered a sacred, purifying act. For Cockrum, his art is his way of giving to the world and to the Blackfeet Nation.
