A RARE AND
INTERESTING LOT OF PRESIDENT KENNEDY, LYNDON JOHNSON, AND BOBBY KENNEDY
AUTOGRAPHED U.S. MARSHALL DOCUMENTS, consisting of items belonging to
former U.S Marshal, Mr. Charles B. Bendlage, Jr. Lot includes two 20”
x 16” printed and filled in documents appointing Bendlage to Marshall.
The first being boldly signed by President Kennedy together with his
brother Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and dated May 6, 1961. The
second being signed by President Lyndon Johnson and Attorney General
Nicholas Katzenbach, and dated June 24, 1965 and both documents being in
their original frames and in excellent condition. Lot further includes a
5” x 4” printed and personally inscribed and signed acknowledgment
card from Robert and Ethel Kennedy, and signed by Kennedy. Also a 1964
dated U.S. Marshall group photograph inscribed with a personal
dedicatory inscription by Robert Kennedy, then Attorney General and also
by Chief U.S. Marshall, James McShane, (it was McShane who escorted
James Meredith to be registered at Ole Miss in 1962). Additionally lot
includes a TLS on Attorney
General letterhead and dated February 19, 1964, thanking Bendlage for a
gift of prayer cards. Letter is signed and includes an additional
inscription by Kennedy “My best to your mom.” Lastly lot includes a
14” x 11” personally signed photograph of Attorney General Nicholas
Katzenbach, inscribed to Bendlage and a First Day Cover dated May 29,
1964, a pre-printed thank you from Jacqueline Kennedy and a President
Kennedy funeral mass card and 2 books: “John F. Kennedy and PT-109”
by R. Tregaskis, the fly leaf with dedicatory inscription by John
Maguire, the Radio Operator on the original PT-109, together with Paul
Fay Jr.’s book “the Pleasure of His Company” and 2 Kennedy
campaign pins including a PT-109 tie-tack. |
