In “Gist of Art” Sloan wrote about this painting saying, “Underpainted in tempera this study of Yosene Ker, daughter of Balfour Ker the artist pleases me. The performance is light and fluent and the color-texture good. A quality of interpretation of a mood is obvious. Note the use of linework in light as well as shade areas.” William Balfour Ker was an illustrator and painter.
