November 20th - 22nd, 1999 AuctionLot 850: Lynn Stacey (American 1903-1979) Estimate....................$500-$750 A descendant of John Quincy Adams and Daniel Webster, Lynn Stacey was born in Washington D.C. and moved to Des Moines, Iowa soon after. Like many early 20th century Iowa artists, he was a product of the University of Iowa and the Cumming School of Art, Des Moines. Additionally Stacey studied at the National Academy of Design. From the mid 1920's and through the 30's Stacey exhibited widely throughout the U.S. winning numerous awards. Some of the many venues he exhibited at were: The Elizabeth Gallery, New Jersey, School of Art Trenton, N.J., Michigan State College, Lansing, Michigan, University of North Dakota, Duluth Art Center, Duluth Minnesota, Illinois State Teachers College, University of Iowa, Rockford Art Association, Iowa Art Guild, Iowa Art Salon, Carson Pirie Scott, Chicago and the National Academy of Design, New York. Mr. Stacey's wife Dorothy Layman Stacey was also an accomplished artist and exhibited in many of the same shows as her husband.
