1, RUSSIAN ICON: The Kazan Mother of God, 19th century. Exquisitely painted in egg tempera on a gold ground.  The border with the Warrior Saint Dimitry atop Palekh style clouds. Overlaid with an exceptional silver repoussé and chased riza with applied enameled halo and corner plaques. Hallmarked Moscow and with Cyrillic makers mark of Grigory Sbitnev. Beautiful! 12”x10.5”. 2, RUSSIAN ICON: The Resurrection and Descent, 19th century. Executed in the miniature style with vestiges of Yaroslav school elements. Over 30 individually painted figures depicting post resurrection scenes. Overlaid with a heavily repoussé  riza with attached enamel title plaque. A very fine icon . 11”x10”. 3, RUSSIAN ICON: The Volokolamskaya Mother of God, 18th century. A Vladimir Mother of God variant. This rare subject takes its name from the Iosifov-Volokolamsk Monastery, where it appeared in 1677.  Overlaid with a very fine and heavy silver repoussé  riza embellished with a profusion of paste stones and with a unique turquoise beaded border. Hallmarked St. Petersburg, and dated 1857. Cyrillic maker’s mark of Mikhail Borodulin. 11.5”x10.5”. Estimate..... $3,000-$4,000

4, RUSSIAN ICON: Tenderness Mother of God, circa 1800. A rare unknown Mother of God image overlaid with an exceptional silver gilt riza hallmarked. Moscow and dated 1818. 5, RUSSIAN ICON: The Lord Almighty, 20th century. An exquisite naturalistic rendering of the Savior. Overlaid with an outstanding 7-piece silver-gilt and overall enameled riza with applied halo and riza of seed pearls. Christ holds the Gospels open to John 13:34. He holds a scroll upon which is written a text adapted from John 1:29 “Behold the Lamb of God…”. He is surrounded by related scenes, his birth, an Angel of the Lord appearing to him in his youth, his beheading, and the discovery of his severed head. 89, RUSSIAN ICON: The Holy John the Forerunner, circa 1625. In this fine early example, the influence of the 15th century icon painter Andrei Rublev can be seen. John, known in the West as the “Baptist”, is seen turned toward Christ in an attitude of prayer. 90, RUSSIAN ICON: Saints Prokopiv and Ioann of Ustyg, circa 1680. Both Saints were given the title “Blazhennuiy” – “Holy Fools”.
