wood panels. The central panel with Saint Nicholas. The left wing depicting the
Descent of the Holy Spirit, the right wing depicting Christ appearing to the
Apostles at the Sea of Tiberias, both post resurrection scenes. Each wing
individually painted on arched wood panels and set into an incredible carved and
painted frame executed in the Pan Slavic style and decorated with Archangels and
gilt. The central panel being artist signed in Cyrillic (indistinguishable) and
dated 1906. A large and impressive item. 32”x39”. Probably produced at

272, A VERY FINE BELGIAN CARVED AND PAINTED TRIPTYCH. The central panel with the
Holy Family, the Virgin at left, the young Christ Child at center holding a book
of Gospels which begins, “I am the Light of the World…”, on the right St.
Joseph who holds a carpenter’s square and blooming lily. The left wing with
the Guardian Angel. The right wing with Saint Lucy. The hinged framework
intricately carved with dragons and a family crest at center. The verso of each
wing also relief carved and with heraldic shields. Each painted panel signed
“J. Anthony” and dated 1919. Jean – Baptiste Anthony (Belgian 1854-1930)
32”x45”. St. Lucy (d.304) was a stunningly beautiful young woman who
converted to Christianity following the miraculous healing of her blind mother.
According to legend, she tore out her own eyes and handed them to a suitor who
admired them too much. In Latin, Lucy means “light”. She is the patron of
