139, A RARE CREE BEADED MOOSEHIDE
JACKET circa 1900, for an adult male, each lapel panel fully beaded
to the waist with a stylized floral design in red, pink, cobalt, emerald, blue,
brown, white, amethysts, lt. green, amber and gold. Four similarly beaded
pockets, beaded cuffs and beaded shoulder on verso. Fringe intact on shoulders
and sleeves, Sinew sewn with some early repairs. Moosehide is supple and
wearable. Size approx. 40-42, L.31”. Estimate.................. $3,000-$5,000

152, A FINE MID 19TH
CENTURY INUIT BONE CARVED SCULPTURE. Resting on a 4.5”x11.25” wood
base overlaid with bone veneer are three fully carved reindeer pulling a sleigh
also carved of bone and with remnants of sinew harness. An Inuit male figure
rests atop a carved bone conical form. Behind the sleigh a carved bone fur tree.
Underside of base with dated period inscription indicating it was acquired in
the city of Arkhangel (Russia) September 6, 1842. Some losses, but overall a
very appealing example. Height 7” Width 11.5”. Examples from this period and
region are rarely offered for sale. Estimate.................. $1,750-$2,500

154, A VERY FINE INUIT CARVED
WALRUS IVORY PICTOGRAPHIC BOW DRILL, 19th century. The
four-sided slightly curving bow with holes drilled at each end. All four
surfaces completely engraved and stained with various hunting scenes on each
side including a scene depicting a walrus hunt, a whale hunt, a seal hunt and
presumably a reindeer or elk hunt and camp scenes. Overall rich deep yellowish
to brown patina. Retains most of the original collection tag which reads:
“Drill Handle from Yukon Alaska” and “Indian Legend” A extremely fine
example in excellent untouched condition. Provenance: Dr. Luman Noyes
(1840-1907) who worked in Alaska in the 19th century. Thence by
decent through his family. Estimate.................. $2,500-$3,500
155, A VERY RARE NORTHWEST COAST
PIPE, 19th century. The two-piece diamond shape
four-sided carved wood stem wrapped in sinew along its entire length. At the
base a greenish carved and polished stone bowl with anvil base and flared mouth
resting on a sinew gasket and held down with multiple wrappings on sinew.
Overall rich dark patina. Retains most of the original collection label, which
reads: Old Indian Pipe from Alaska - Dr. Noyes”. Overall length approximately
14”. Provenance: Dr. Luman Noyes (1840-1907) thence by decent
through his family. Estimate................
