394, EXTREMELY RARE ONE OF A KIND WINCHESTER, M. 1890, .22 short, serial #1. 1st model. Wood 90% orig. finish, metal 20% orig. finish. Case hardened frame (case faded to silvery gray), 24” oct. brl. with approx. 90% blue, fading in spots and with light, superficial rust spots/stains. Fixed rear sight. Concealed locking lugs, solid frame. The serial #1 is located on the forward end of the underside of the frame. Rear trigger tang bears “Pat. June 26, 1888”, upper tang “Winchester” over “Model 1890”. Brl “-Manufactured by the-  -Winchester Repeating Arms Co., New Haven, Conn. U.S.A.-“, “.22 short” at breech, top flat. Wood in excellent condition with orig finish, few minor light dings. Steel cresent butt plate turned silvery gray. All markings consistent as described in the book “Winchester Side-Action Rifles, Vol. I: Model 1890 and Model 1906”, by Ned Schwing, Drause Publications, Iola, Wisconsin, 1992. Buttstock has elaborate 6-pointed star in lay on each side of stock and elongated triangle each side of wrist. Maple and cherry used for the inlays. Iron crescent buttplate marked Remington UMC.
